About Our Visceral Manipulation Osteopathy Treatment

Visceral Manipulation (VM), also know as visceral osteopathic treatment, is a specialized branch of osteopathy that focuses on the treatment of the internal organs (viscera) of the body.

Organs within the body have a certain degree of mobility and motility, or movement. They are surrounded by connective tissues and supported by ligaments, all of which can be influenced by factors such as trauma, surgery, inflammation and emotional stress. When the organs or the connective tissues surrounding them become restricted or dysfunctional, it can lead to pain, discomfort and impaired function.

During VM, gentle manual techniques are used to assess and treat the organs and surrounding tissue using subtle movements to identify areas of restriction, tension or dysfunction. The aim is then to restore optimal mobility, blood flow and nerve function to improve overall balance and functions of the organs within their respective systems.

For example, the digestive system is made of up the mouth, throat, stomach, small and large intestines, pancreas, liver and gallbladder. If just one of the organs is not functioning optimally, we experience a state of dis-ease. The goal is to have all members of the team communicating with each other clearly and doing their part!
